Golf Courses: New Orleans has over 30 area golf course and here are a few of our favorite courses.

Tournament Players Club of Louisiana: Home of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Designed by Pete Dye, along with player consultants Steve Elkington and New Orleans native Kelly Gibson, the 7,600-yard layout offers a grueling test for the PGA Tour’s best pros. TPC of Louisiana has been named one of the top 5 best new courses in America by Golf Digest.

English Turn: This Jack Nicklaus-designed Par 72 Championship Golf Course presents a unique challenge to golfers of any skill level. Water comes into play on every hole. The manicured greens, meandering lakes and magnificent plantation-style clubhouse make golfing at English Turn a unique experience.

Oak Harbor Golf Club is an 18-hole championship layout worthy of its critical acclaim, rated Four Stars by “Golf Digest Places to Play.” Since its opening in 1992, Oak Harbor has quickly earned a reputation for excellence in course conditioning and dedication to personal service. The Lee Schmitt design is Pete Dye inspired. Schmitt makes good use of railroad ties and bulkheads around the many bayou waterways that intersect the layout. The course is a worthy adversary to even scratch golfers from the “tips,” but play is a manageable 6,261 yards from the regular men’s tees.

Audubon Golf Trail: The Audubon Golf Trail was named for naturalist/artist John James Audubon who, enchanted by the natural beauty of Louisiana, painted a number of his famous bird studies here. Coincidentally, all the courses on the Trail are members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for Golf Courses, a program dedicated to protecting the environment and preserving the natural heritage of the game of golf. You’ll find the 9 member courses that make up Louisiana’s Audubon Golf Trail quite exceptional.

The Louisiana Peach Festival – June 25-27.  There will be live music featuring Grammy Award Country Group of the Year nominee Shenandoah highlights the festival’s entertainment. The festival also features 200 artisans and vendors of all types. There is a parade, antique cars, a rodeo, tennis tournament, 5K run, cookery contest and more. The 2009 festival was selected by the Southeast Tourism Society as a Top 20 Event for June.

Stephen Sondheim’s musical, COMPANY, opens at Tulane University’s Summer Lyric Theatre, July 9-12. The clashing sounds and pulsing rhythms of New York City underscore this landmark “concept” show, considered by many to have inaugurated the modern era of musical theatre. Performance times for COMPANY are 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday in Dixon Hall, Tulane University.
