Le Petit Theatre: An 87-year-old community theatre, Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre was organized in 1916, when a group of amateur theatre-lovers began putting on plays in the drawing room of one of the members. Their audience grew rapidly and by 1922, a new theatre was constructed on the corner of Chatres and St. Peter Streets. The building complex holds a professionally-equipped theatre. During its 87 years of operation, Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre has been recognized as one of the leading “little” or community theatres in the nation.
New Orleans Opera Association: The date of the very first staging of opera in the Crescent City cannot now be established and seems forever lost to music historians. But it can safely be stated that since 1796, in the final decade of the Spanish colonial era, New Orleans has had operatic performances on almost a yearly basis. What is also significant is that, with few exceptions, throughout the 19th century, the city annually boasted a resident company that was engaged for its principal theatre and which could be depended upon for performances throughout an established operatic season.
Saenger Theatre: As a result of significant damages sustained by Hurricane Katrina, the Saenger Theatre has been forced to postpone the entire 2005-2006 season. Built in 1927 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Saenger Theatre has suspended operations until such time as a re-opening plan can be developed.
New Orleans Ballet Association: The New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) is a presenter of dance from around the world and a service organization to the community. NOBA’s dynamic Main Stage season annually features a variety of world-class dance companies at the Theater of the Performing Arts in Armstrong Park. In addition to the presenting series, the NOBA Dance Institute serves as the largest “dance classroom” in the Gulf South providing over 50,000 dance enthusiasts with over 3,000 concerts, lecture/demonstrations, workshops, classes and much more.
