BE A SOUTHERN PUPPETEER: Create Hand Puppet Houses inspired by artist Jeffrey Cook
Sat. January 16, 2010
10 am-noon
For Children 8 to 11
Calliope Puppets’ Karen Konnerth directs a two-hour workshop for children, leading them to use puppetry to bring to life stories of their own, inspired by the Ogden Museum of Southern Art collection.
For this workshop, the inspiration is Jeffrey Cook’s fanciful mixed-media sculpture “Makin’ of a Melody.” Participants will begin with a blank hand puppet mitt to create a fantastic character, then proceed to build a scene around it, using cardboard boxes and wonderful odds and ends of all kinds. The puppets will then get to know each other by visiting one another’s new homes. Participants will leave with a puppet and its unique box house/stage.
This is part of a series of workshops directed by Calliope Puppets. Each workshop will feature a different puppetry technique, so they may by taken as a series, or individually. Through these workshops, children will learn about Southern artists and art traditions.
Fee: $20 (Museum members); $25 (non-members). Fees includes materials.
